Murals Response
1. Where have you seen murals in Holland or West Michigan? Be specific...
To be honest I haven't really taken note of any murals I've seen.
2. What makes for a good mural?
I think a good mural takes a collection of different pictures/art that all have to do with one topic. A good mural consists of lots of colors.
3. If you were to design a mural, what would be important to keep in mind with regards to design and execution?
If I were designing my own mural I would make sure that there is a big focal point of the mural that draws peoples attention. There would need to be surrounding pictures that relate to the theme of the mural. It would also be important to keep a consistent color scheme with the mural so that all of the different pictures are unified with the colors.

Typeface Design Plan
My Letters/Numbers: Aa, Bb, Cc & 1,2,3
For the handwritten font I want to do something chalkboard inspired. There are two options I am considering. I'm thinking possibly either a block/bold letter with a shaded in front with dots. Another option I am considering is doing an elegant cursive font.
For the sculptural design I want to use colorful sprinkles. I would arrange the sprinkles into the letters and numbers I've been assigned on a colorful cake plate to tie in the bakingish theme and photograph it.
For the digital design I would like to do a chunky cursive font, or the first option for my handwriting choice (bold block letter with dots).

Helvetica
I found that the Helvetica movie was pretty interesting. When it was first introduced I didn't think it would be very exciting, but it turned out to be interesting. It was cool to see where they started with the font, and how over time they changed it to what it is now (changed the name...). I've always looked at Helvetica as a boring font, but after the movie now I see that by changing the spacing of the letters, and width you can make it more interesting. It's a clean and professional font. I saw all the work the early designers put into just one font. After watching this movie I realize just how much this font is used in our daily life. It's everywhere. From posters, to signs, to business'.

Graphic Design
In this graphic design class I expect we will learn how to use photoshop and other software like that to design artwork. I expect we will design many different types of items such as posters, flyers, logos, web design, t-shirts we see in the store, etc. In graphic design we will learn the importance of each item we make and when it is used in business life.
Graphic design is everywhere in our lives. It's in the layout of a magazine we read, in the logo of a car, or a brand name item. I see graphic design used in labels for products, and in posters and artwork.
The better the design for a business the more it will attract peoples attention and draw customers in. I believe that a successful design isn't too wild and overpowering but has interest to it. The designer might choose to use a shape that corresponds with their message to make it interesting or use eye catching colors. A talented designer uses fonts that compliment each other.
